Ingredients
- 350g Extra-firm tofu
- 150g Broccoli florets
- 1 large Bell pepper
- 1 medium Carrot
- 3 tbsp Soy sauce
- 2 tbsp Cornstarch
- 3 cloves Garlic
- 1 tbsp Sesame oil
- 2 tbsp Vegetable oil
- 1 tsp (optional) Sriracha
Instructions

1
Press and coat tofu
Press tofu between paper towels for 10 minutes to remove moisture. Cut into 2cm cubes, toss with cornstarch until evenly coated. This is the secret to crispy tofu.
-
2
Fry tofu
Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Cook tofu cubes 3-4 minutes per side until golden and crispy on all sides. Remove and set aside.
-
3
Stir-fry vegetables
In the same pan, add sesame oil. Stir-fry broccoli, sliced pepper, and julienned carrot 3-4 minutes until crisp-tender.
-
4
Combine
Add minced garlic, cook 30 seconds. Return tofu, add soy sauce and sriracha. Toss 1-2 minutes until the sauce glazes everything. Serve over rice.
The Crispy Tofu Recipe That Changes Minds
"I don't like tofu" is almost always a statement about bad tofu preparation, not about tofu itself. This crispy tofu stir-fry converts skeptics because the cornstarch-coated, golden-fried cubes are crunchy on the outside, creamy inside, and coated in a savory garlic-soy glaze that's genuinely addictive.
At 24g of complete plant protein and 350 calories, it's a vegan meal that satisfies without compromise. The colorful vegetables add vitamins, fiber, and visual appeal, while the sesame and soy sauce create a flavor profile that's as complex as any meat-based stir-fry.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make tofu actually taste good?
The three keys are: press it well (remove water), coat it in cornstarch (creates crispiness), and cook it in enough oil on high heat. Boring tofu is wet, uncoated, under-seasoned tofu.
What type of tofu should I buy?
Extra-firm is essential for stir-frying — it holds its shape and gets crispy. Firm tofu works in a pinch. Silken or soft tofu will crumble in a stir-fry.
Is tofu a complete protein?
Yes! Soy is one of the few plant-based complete proteins, containing all 9 essential amino acids. 100g of firm tofu provides about 8g of protein with only 76 calories.
Can I use an air fryer for the tofu?
Yes, and it's excellent. Toss cornstarch-coated tofu cubes with a light spray of oil and air fry at 200°C/400°F for 12-15 minutes, shaking halfway. You get crispy results with less oil.
What vegetables can I swap in?
Snow peas, baby corn, bok choy, green beans, or zucchini all work well. The key is cutting everything to similar sizes so they cook evenly. Add leafy greens like spinach at the very end.
