Frequently Asked Questions
What makes this different from regular grilled chicken?
The lemon-oregano-garlic marinade is the classic Greek souvlaki flavor profile. Combined with the cool, creamy tzatziki, it creates a contrast of flavors and temperatures that plain grilled chicken can't match.
Can I make this ahead for meal prep?
Yes! Cook the chicken, rice, and tzatziki separately. Store in containers for up to 4 days. The tzatziki actually improves overnight as the flavors meld. Cut fresh vegetables when assembling.
Is tzatziki healthy?
Very! Greek yogurt is packed with protein (10g per 100g) and probiotics for gut health. The cucumber adds hydration and fiber. It's one of the healthiest sauces you can use.
Can I marinate the chicken overnight?
Yes, and it's actually recommended for the best flavor. The lemon juice and yogurt tenderize the meat over time. Just keep it refrigerated and don't marinate longer than 24 hours or the acid may make the texture mushy.
What can I use instead of rice?
Quinoa adds extra protein and fiber. Warm pita bread is the most traditional Greek option. For low-carb, try cauliflower rice or serve the souvlaki over a bed of mixed greens as a salad bowl.
